Filbert

Filbert trees aka hazelnut trees are deciduous, medium to large-sized trees. As the tree matures, the bark becomes fissured with cork ridges, providing winter interest. The flowers are male catkins that provide an early spring display before the leaves emerge. The female flowers are tiny catkins that are usually not noticeable and are hidden from view. The nuts follow the female catkins.
